With the introduction of fiber optic cables and other modern technology, the internet has become superfast. Everyone has fast internet these days.

Service providers make sure they update themselves as newer technology rolls out, in order to establish customers and ensure everyone remains connected.

However, another factor that plays a part in providing you with high internet speeds is your router. If a router is fast and powerful enough, it will easily complement your speedy connection.

A lot of routers are available on the market and before buying one, you need to know what exactly you are getting into.

TP-Link: A Market Leader

One of the market leaders in high-speed routers is TP-Link. They are a Chinese company that has been in the business for over 20 years. Not only do they provide the most innovative technology, but their prices are also favorable.

In this article, we will be discussing three of their more prominent products i.e. the TP-Link Archer C7, C8, and C9.

While all three of them are great competitors in their own categories, there are things that set them apart. Therefore, let us get started with a detailed comparison of the three routers.

Which one should you buy?

Comparison

The choice between whether to buy the C7, C8, or C9 is not a tough one. This is due to the fact that there is not a lot of difference between the price of each of these, and the differences between them are quite noticeable.

This makes it quite easy to compare and contrast and decide which one is the best one to buy according to need and preference.

C7 or C8 – which router should you buy out of the two?

When it comes to comparing the C7 and C9, the price difference is quite insignificant. The C9, however, offers a lot more than the C7 and is the newer product out of the two.

The C9 features two ports for USB connections, while the C7 only features one USB port. If you wish to upgrade your router to a router in the Archer series, the C9 is definitely the better option of the two.

C8 or C9 – which router should you buy out of these two?

At the same time, if you find yourself having to choose between the C8 and C9, the situation is not much different. The C9 is newer than the C8 and provides a much better performance which enhances user experience.

If you are someone with average Internet usage, all three routers are a good option – but when it comes to expansion, it is only the C8 that gives you that capability.

TP-Link Archer C7 vs. C8 vs. C9: Detailed Comparison

TP-Link AC1750 Wireless Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (Archer C8)

The TP-Link Archer C7, C8, and C9 have distinctive features that set that them apart. They also have a couple of similarities.

For instance, all three devices support dual-band i.e. they can operate on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. This is convenient in situations where a user wants to either bump up or tone down connection speeds.

802.11ac Wi-Fi standards are also met and all three devices have 4 LAN ethernet ports and one WAN port. A USB 2.0 port is included in all three devices, with the C8 and C9 taking things to the next level with a USB 3.0 port as well.

Lastly, it is worth pointing out that the C7 does not have a dual-core processor like the C8 and C9. The C9 is the fastest of the three, with a 1GHz clock speed.

TP-Link Archer C7 (AC1750)

TP-Link AC1750 Smart WiFi Router - Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Internet Router for Home, Works with Alexa, VPN Server, Parental Control&QoS (Archer A7)

The TP-Link Archer C7 brings supreme performance to the table, especially in its price range. It retails at $80 on Amazon and is really a class leader when it comes to pricing and performance.

Performance

With a maximum throughput of 1.75Gbit/s, the Archer C7 allows for fast and efficient 4K streaming to a certain level. For its processor speed of 720MHz, it actually does quite a decent job.

It is the lowest in terms of price as compared to the C8 and C9 but really does offer a big bang for the bucks! The TP-Link Archer C7 also supports IPv4 and IPv6. The router has a total of six antennas; with three inside it and three on the outside.

This makes for a pretty fast Wi-Fi connection. The Quality of Service allows you to customize bandwidth allocations. You can now direct all of it towards yourself!

What we liked
  • Affordable, more value for money
  • Easy to set up via smartphone app
  • Guest Wi-Fi networks can be set up and configured
  • High throughput speeds allow for heavy-duty applications such as streaming 4K video
What We didn't like
  • No USB 3.0 port
  • A single-core processor that limits performance
  • A touch obsolete due to the C8 and C9 being priced somewhere in the same region

Verdict

Now that you know about the TP-Link Archer C7, it is worth pointing out that it is a device catered to smaller households and businesses.

While it can punch above its weight, capabilities start fading once many users are connected. However, the C7 is still a very worthy candidate for being the sole Wi-Fi router you need.

TP-Link Archer C8: The next level

TP-Link AC1750 Wireless Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (Archer C8)

The TP-Link Archer C8 takes the C7’s performance to the next level. Its dual-core 800MHz processor makes it capable of lifting heavier data weights as compared to the C7. It also has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports for convenient online storage.

Though the throughput speed is exactly similar to the C7, the C8 still has a lot more to offer due to its dual-core processor.

Performance

One might be led to believe that the Archer C7 and C8 have no difference in performance. While this might be true under normal workload conditions, it changes completely once you start pushing the C8 to its extent. The 800MHz dual-core processor comes in handy while handling simultaneous tasks.

It also has beamforming technology which basically means that it has an ability to locate and direct Wi-Fi signals in the direction of the user. It, therefore, provides fast connection speeds as compared to the C7.

Parental control also exists on this device. The Quality of Service on the Archer C8 also allows you to modify bandwidth allocation. The device also supports IPv6. Moreover, the dual-core processor really adds stability to the network.

What we liked
  • Powerful 800MHz dual-core processor that can handle many users at the same time
  • Both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports for convenience
  • Sleek and more aesthetic shape
  • Beamforming – allows for faster Wi-Fi connections
What We didn't like
  • Perhaps the only unsettling fact about the C8 is that it is offered at a price range similar to that of the C9, which provides more performance.

Verdict

The TP-Link Archer C8 is perfect for households that do not want to invest in repeaters. Beamforming makes the user experience even better. You can be anywhere, any distance away from the router with any obstruction in between and you will still receive decent internet speed.

4K content can also be streamed and the only downside is that the number of users, once increased, decreases Wi-Fi speed. This is definitely one of the drawbacks of the Archer C8.

However, if you do not have a lot of Wi-Fi and internet usage, the C8 is a clear choice. It leaves the C7 far behind in terms of features, and also is not quite C9. It stands perfectly in the middle.

TP-Link Archer C9: The game-changer

TP-LINK AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Wi-Fi AC Router (Archer C9)

Imagine having more performance and features at a price slightly above the C8. Enter the TP-Link Archer C9.

It is the most powerful out of them all so far. Throughput speeds go up to 1900Mbit/s and its dual-core processor offers a clock speed of 1GHz. It can handle multiple users at the same time and multiple antennas guarantee advanced beamforming that enhances your experience.

The C9 is by far the greatest choice from all three.

Performance

Due to faster connection speeds and the dual-core processor, the C9 beats both the C7 and C8 in terms of performance. It can handle 4K video like a breeze, and it is only when you add more and more users to the mix is when you really see why the Archer C9 is such a hit.

Even with a lot of users connected, the TP-Link Archer C9 is still capable of fast streaming rates. It is going to be a long time before you stretch it to its limit because that limit does not seem to exist for the C9.

Guest Wi-Fi networks are also available along with an easy setup process. However, there are a few design issues.

For instance, the TP-Link Archer C9 can only stand; it cannot be positioned in any other way. It also doesn’t support VPN customization, which is something all routers in its class offer.

What we liked
  • Ridiculously fast throughput speed of 1900Mbit/s
  • Advanced beamforming technology that ensures each user gets sufficient bandwidth
  • The faster processor handles multiple users without any issues
  • Has both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports
  • Very easy to set up using the smartphone app
  • Sleek and better design
What We didn't like
  • Lacks VPN customization
  • Might off as a bit basic when stacked up against competitors

Verdict

The TP-Link Archer C9 is great for applications where users rely on moderate internet usage. Three to four 4K videos can be streamed simultaneously along with many other devices being connected.

It is no pushover in that department. When it comes to gaming, the C9 might not deliver ideal performance due to a lack of further customization options.

The table below compares features of the TP-Link Archer C7, C8, and C9. This should provide a simplified overview and make your purchasing decision easier to make.

Conclusion

No one likes slow internet. Wi-Fi connections that are can be extremely annoying and frustrating. This is why most people prefer breaking the bank when it comes to routers. However, not a lot of people do their research properly.

The TP-Link Archer series provides good value for your money. Performance is right up there with the competitors, may it be any price range, and so is the price. The TP-Link Archer series caters to almost everyone due to its affordability.

We personally believe that, while the C7 and C8 provide good performance for less money, the C9 blows them out of the water.

It is priced just above these two, not making it very expensive, and provides top-of-the-line performance. If you are going for a good router, why not spend a little more for these features. You will not be looking for a change anytime soon.
